Adult Psychotherapy and Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy

I work with adults across the lifespan, grounded in contemporary psychoanalytic psychotherapy.  This frame, in particular, offers a nuanced understanding of conscious and unconscious experiences while addressing longstanding patterns within ourselves.

Many people reach out to me for help with early life experiences that continue to impact their lives, along with struggles with addiction.  Support is also offered around challenges that arise in professional, institutional, and organizational settings, where questions of role, relationships, boundaries, and purpose can affect one’s work and overall sense of well-being.

Specialization includes:

  • anxiety
  • depression
  • intimacy concerns
  • trauma
  • addiction/recovery
  • divorce/separation
  • suicidal thoughts
  • relationship struggles
  • psychosis

Child and Adolescent Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy

In addition to adult psychotherapy, I am certified in child and adolescent psychoanalytic psychotherapy through the Chicago Psychoanalytic Institute (formerly known as the Chicago Institute of Psychoanalysis). I work with children, adolescents, and families to support inner growth.  The heightened level of privacy, confidentiality, and quality of care as a private practitioner is especially important given the age, developmental needs, and future-oriented life experiences of young patients.

Child/Teen specialization includes:

  • self-esteem
  • anxiety
  • academic issues (includes avoidance, struggles with separating from parents, and behavioral concerns)
  • anger/aggression
  • social difficulties
  • screen/tech use
  • addictions
  • trauma
  • psychosis
  • suicidal feelings
  • grief/loss
  • adoption
  • deficits with attention (sometimes referred to as ADHD or other similar diagnoses)
  • impulsivity
  • Autism spectrum disorder

Through play and open conversation, treatment facilitates developmental (fluid and nonlinear) growth.  In a safe, supportive, and empathetic environment, we construct ways to express complex needs/wants while also working through the underlying unspoken experiences that may be affecting school and social relationships.

This thoughtful and engaging process creates space for meaningful and lasting change.  Instead of being told how to think or feel, psychoanalytic therapy for children or teens offers the opportunity to expand one's capacity to think, feel, and relate independently of directives and other behavioral modifications.  When or if additional support is needed, I offer a preferred provider network to support growth. This includes referrals to depth-oriented practitioners, psychoanalytic inpatient programs, psychiatrists, OT/PT's, addiction recovery groups/inpatient programs, and other dynamic-based supplemental therapies (these adjuncts would support the analytic transformation versus the use of suppression, reassurance, and other targeted intrusions).

Weekly Intensive Psychotherapy and Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy

As a Candidate in Psychoanalysis at the Chicago Center for Psychoanalysis, I also offer three to five sessions weekly for those seeking intensive psychotherapy or psychoanalysis.  A sliding scale fee is available when insurance or finances cannot cover the frequency of sessions.  I invite you to contact me for an initial consultation.
